Sports medicine
Internal sports medicine focuses on the health of fit and sporty people, no matter whether they are high-class athletes or exercise recreationally. Sports physicians work on prevention and rehabilitation. This means they support their patients in preventing illness by giving them targeted exercise programmes as well as helping them regain their strength and fitness after having suffered an illness.
Especially people who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiac insufficiency/problems or lipometabolic disorders can significantly increase their quality of life by following particular exercises. The sports physician helps them define suitable exercises and advises them on how often they should do it. After a comprehensive examination, the sports physician can give personal recommendations on a patient’s exercise capacity and establish an individual training plan.
Perfectly healthy people can also benefit from exercise when done in a suitable manner. Exercise strengthens the immune system and generally increases a person’s wellbeing. In 2007, Dr Christoph Jeschke received the “Award for the Additional Qualification in Sports Medicine” of the Bavarian State Medical Council. He regularly attends further training sessions and is a member of the German Association of Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP).
